Personalisation social media key for 2012 travel

first_imgSource = e-Travel Blackboard: N.J Personalisation and technology will play a large role in influencing travel this year, according to industry leaders. In an EyeforTravel Industry Leaders Predict Top Trends for 2012 report, Google Southeast Asia head of travel Ali Yilmaz explained personalised search results will help travellers find holiday requirements specific to their needs. He said that this year the global search engine will look at organising searches so that results come back with colleague’s reviews, peer photos, family videos of the destination or a business page of a local agency.“So search results will become more personal, more social and most importantly more relevant,” he said. Technology, particular mobiles and social network sites are also expected to become invaluable resources for travel this year.According to Abacus International chief executive Robert Bailey, companies will aim to enhance their mobile handset offerings, even attempting to “push the envelope even further”.“Instead of treating the mobile platform as a down-sized version of the web, to look at building travel application that can only be used with today’s smartphones,” he explained. “These apps would be able to integrate great content with the traveller’s social graph as well as location-awareness.”The same unique application stance will also be taken on the tablets, while social media will continue to be examined for the right way to utilise the product.Worldhotels global senior director of social media Edward Perry said he expects to see hotels in particular take social media beyond the experimental phase and merge it with everyday business.“I predict that in 2012, hotels/hotel groups will seek to integrate social outreach into all aspects of a hotels business: sales, front desk, housekeeping, customer service, operations, food and beverage,” he said.“Social networkers will play an instrumental role in assisting team members to understand the role they play on the social graph.”Mr Perry, Mr Yilmaz and Mr Bailey will join Priceline group management board member Adrian Currie at this year’s EyeforTravel TDS Asia to present industry insights.last_img
