Drive on mosquitoborne diseases at housing complexes

first_imgKolkata: The officials of New Town Kolkata Development Authority will visit housing complexes on the day of the annual general meetings to create awareness on mosquito-borne diseases.The decision was taken at a meeting held between the senior officials of New Town Kolkata Development Authority and representatives of various housing complexes. The awareness campaign is a part of the special drive against the mosquito-borne diseases before monsoon. It is hoped that as many residents attend the annual general meetings, they will stay back after the meeting to listen to the dos and don’ts to combat vector borne diseases. New Town Kolkata Development Authority conducts anti-mosquito drives throughout the year. The water bodies were cleaned and Gappi fishes were released to destroy mosquito larvae. Spraying of mosquito repellant in different areas id carried out by special teams headed by the senior officials of New Town Kolkata Development Authority. The NKDA has decided to take up the state Housing Board to carry out cleaning operation at Sankalpa an unfinished housing complex in New Town. As the housing complex has not been completed grass has come up all over and garbage has not been cleaned. There are pockets where the water patches have come up. Such patches serve as mosquito breeding ground. The NKDA has decided that if needed it will break open the door to carry out cleaning operation and destroy the mosquito breeding ground. It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has instructed the state Urban Development minister Firhad Hakim to ask all the civic bodies to take up anti-larvae drive seriously. Accordingly, Hakim had held meeting with the representatives of all the municipalities and corporation and discussed about the steps they have taken to control malaria and dengue.last_img
