Jay and Silent Bob strike back with a crowdfunded video game

first_imgIf you’ve missed the exploits of Jay and Silent Bob then you’re in luck. There is currently a new crowdfunding campaign for a video game starring everyone’s favorite stoned New Jerseyans called Jay and Silent Bob: Chronic Blunt Punch. It will have all of the silliness and crude humor you would expect from the View Askew universe. Both Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes will be involved with the project along with the SmodCo team and developers, Interabang Entertainment. Naturally, Smith and Mewes will also provide voice over work for Silent Bob and Jay, respectively. The pair will also help with feedback for the storyline to make sure it remains consistent with the world of the films. Talent from other movies like Chasing Amy and Mallrats will also be tapped for this project. As for the game itself, expect a 2.5D sidescrolling multiplayer beat-em-up. You’ll go on a quest to find your lost weed customers who are trapped inside of a gigantic mall, and take on foes with melee attacks and “self-esteem destroying” trash talk. Players will be able to swap between Jay and Silent Bob on the fly or perform special combination moves. The game will have environments based on locations from the movies and beyond. It’s the smack talking that will make this game really feel like a View Askew movie. Instead of destroying foes physically, you can do so verbally. The game will have a branching narrative with different outcomes, some of which will affect boss battles. You can demoralize a boss or even make them an ally, depending on what you say to them. The game will feature a wide array of facial animations that will help make “insult combat” truly standout. The project currently has $19,695 of its $400,000 goal with 37 days left to go. There are a number of tiers as well, ranging from $10, which will get your name in the credits, to $10,000 which will not only get you the game and all of the rewards of the previous tiers, but also an appearance in Kevin Smith’s next movie. If successful, the game is set to launch in Winter of 2018 on Humble Bundle, Mac, Windows, and Steam. If you’re interested in funding the game or just want to know more about it, make sure to head over to the project’s official page.last_img
