HC orders action against chemical use in fruits

first_img.The High Court on Tuesday asked the government to take stern action against people involved in using harmful chemicals in fruits.The bench of justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and justice KM Kamrul Kader issued the order after hearing on a writ petition, reports UNB.The bench also expressed dissatisfaction over a report of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) made after testing the use of formalin and harmful chemicals in mango.Lawyer Manzill Murshid stood for the petitioner while deputy attorney general ABM Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar represented the state.Besides, two separate reports on behalf of the RAB and police chiefs were submitted before the court.On 20 May, the court asked the RAB chief, IGP, BSTI chairman and its director to from a monitoring team to check the use of chemicals in fruit markets and wholesale markets of Dhaka and other parts of the country.On 9 April, the HC asked the government to deploy law enforcers led by magistrate to stop the use of chemicals in mango orchards in Rajshahi. It also asked the Rajshahi divisional commissioner and DIG of Rajshahi range to submit reports after implementing the order.last_img
