first_imgVancouver police late Monday night were hoping to get more information from a victim who was attacked by a group of assailants and cut or stabbed earlier Monday evening, near the intersection of East Brandt Road and Fourth Plain Boulevard, southeast of Evergreen Park.About 6:30 p.m. Monday, two witnesses called 911 to report the attack. One reported seeing a knife and a fight with four or five males involved. The other reported seeing the victim thrown down in a fight involving eight to 10 people, said Officer Dave Chamblee with the Vancouver Police Department. One witness yelled to the assailants that police were being called and everyone scattered. They escaped despite the efforts of officers who converged in the area, some arriving in as quickly as three minutes, and setting a tracking dog on the trail. Lots of people were in the area, making it hard to find the assailant or assailants in the crowd. The injured male, name and age not immediately released, later called 911.He was taken to a hospital with cuts or stab wounds that weren’t believed life-threatening, Chamblee said. The victim’s medical condition wasn’t available. The victim said he’d been jumped by several assailants.Late Monday night, police officers were at the hospital and waiting to interview the victim further, after he received medical care, Chamblee said. The motive, whether a robbery or something else, hadn’t yet been established. The crime may be charged as first-degree felony assault if a suspect later is arrested. The case likely will be referred to detectives today, Chamblee said.John Branton: 360-735-4513 or [email protected]last_img
