Minister Approves Bear Head LNG Export Project

first_imgEnvironment Minister Randy Delorey has granted environmental assessment approval to Bear Head LNG Corporation to resume developing the liquefied natural gas facility at Point Tupper, Richmond Co., to export natural gas. The approval includes 32 terms and conditions to address greenhouse-gas emissions, noise and potential impacts to wildlife, water, wetlands and transportation. The company must also have a community liaison committee that includes municipal, Mi’kmaq and public representation. Construction is expected to begin next year, with operations to start in 2019. The project is also subject to requirements and approvals for plant operations. In 2004, under its former owners, the project had environmental assessment approval as an import facility. That approval was transferred to Bear Head LNG Corporation in 2014.
