The residents asked for much space, light and a minimalist, modern design. The urban building requirement was for a gable-roofed house and a gutter of maximally 6 metres high.Save this picture!© Mirko MerchioriSave this picture!Floor PlanSave this picture!© Mirko MerchioriInstead of a traditional gable roof, we have merged the house and the roof to create a sculptural form that emerges from the dunes like a rock. Each side of the house has its own character: at the eastern side, the roof was extended until 1 metre above surface level, whereas at the southwest, the incised roof reaches up to 6 metres. A cut-out creates a pleasant exterior space and a singular appearance. The southern facade is the most open. The residents wanted to maintain as close a relationship with the water and the beautiful view as possible. The large windows and two sunrooms highlight the transition from inside to outside and render the feeling of living outdoors: regardless of the season.Save this picture!Floor PlanThe serrated dunes that will embrace the house, will bring a sense of privacy at both the northern, eastern and western sides and nestle the villa in nature.Save this picture!© Mirko MerchioriProject gallerySee allShow lessTRAX Roeselare / NERO ArchitectenSelected ProjectsHouse in Janeanes / Branco-DelRio ArquitectosSelected Projects Share The Netherlands ShareFacebookTwitterPinterestWhatsappMailOr Clipboardlast_img read more

Kavanaugh and his accuser Christine Blasey Ford are underway. CBS News said there a few things to look out for that makes today’s hearing something to follow. The hearing is being held by the Senate Judiciary Committee, which is the committee that considers Supreme Court Nominations. This is the first time the Judiciary Committee called an outside lawyer to do the questioning since 1998. Arizona Prosecutor Rachel Mitchell will be handling the questioning of Ford’s testimony. Liverpool owner to fans: Glad your patience paid off

first_imgStill basking in the euphoria of breaking a 30-year old jinx, Liverpool owner John W Henry has told club fans across the globe they have every right to dance in the air It gladdens the heart according to him to see that the three decade wait to clinch the premier league finally paid off, adding that the last 14 months represents a personal peak for him. Since June 2019 the Reds have won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and, after a 30-year wait, the league title. Henry’s Fenway Sports Group also owns baseball franchise Boston Red Sox, who ended their own 86-year trophy drought with a World Series victory in 2004, following up with further wins in 2007, 2013 and 2018. But the American believes what Liverpool have achieved sits above that. “The fact that we are champions of England, champions of Europe, the Club World Cup, and the Super Cup is just an extraordinary accomplishment by this organisation and by these players,” he told “To be involved with that, to have been a part of it has really been the capstone of my career and I think all of us who have been a part of Fenway Sports Group. “Liverpool Football Club is a family and it’s really something extraordinary to be part of. Premier league champions Liverpool “I just want to say (to the supporters) that you’ve waited a long time for this and I know we all have to celebrate responsibly, but this really feels sort of like the gift that keeps on giving. “Every day I get up, it’s front and centre that we won (in) England finally. So, that’s my wish for you, that every morning you get up for the next, as long as you can accomplish it, think about what we accomplished this year in Europe, England and I hope you feel as proud as I do. “To the staff, to the players, to all of you who expended so much effort over these last two years, I just want to say thank you from all of us at Fenway Sports Group. He’ll get a lot out of that.” ROBERT FALCONE JR., MIND YOUR BISCUITS, WINNER: “This is great for him. He bounced out of the Breeders’ Cup great, and he gets over the track so well. He just proved today, again, that he’s a great horse. He’s a real nice horse. It feels great.” JOEL ROSARIO, MIND YOUR BISCUITS, WINNER: “It’s worth the trip. Not a bad afternoon. It is always fun coming out here. I was a little concerned in the stretch. We were closer than we have ever been before. They were smoking up front. We got a little late kick and he took off.” NOTES: Today’s on-track crowd was 46,514. The winning owners are J Stables, Head of Plains Partners, LLC, or Summers, et al. I let the horse go for a bit on the lead but I didn’t just want to give it to him so I had to put the pressure on a bit but that horse finished really strong. He’s a really nice horse and my horse ran his eyeballs out. I felt that he tried his hardest.” RAFAEL BEJARANO, TEN BLESSINGS, THIRD: “We got a good trip and we were in a good position at the 3/8ths pole. We kept running, but they were really running up front. They did 1:20 and we would have had to run 1:19 to beat them.”last_img read more

The Danger in Occupying the Middle

first_imgThere are only two real business strategies, and businesses in the middle are being sucked into the gravitational pull of one of these strategies. The first strategy is lowest price, or transactional. To operate this strategy you have to drive costs out of the business. These businesses focus on the efficiency of the transaction with the buyer. They make things fast and cheap. They don’t worry about being better. The second strategy is caring, or consultative. It’s the polar opposite of the first strategy. To operate this strategy, you can’t drive costs out of the business; this strategy requires a greater investment in time, energy, and resources. You might be better and faster, but you can’t be cheaper. Being cheap destroys the strategy.Your clients have to care about whatever it is you sell enough to pay more to obtain it. The Internet makes this easier by allowing you to have direct access to the people who value what you do.The dangerous place to occupy is in the middle. In the middle, you might be a little better than the low price competitors, but you’re not “better” enough to make you worth paying more to obtain. This is how you lose to lower priced competitors. The gravitational pull here is to compete on price, and by doing so, giving up what makes you a little better. You might be a little faster and a little cheaper than the higher-priced, caring, consultative competitors, but not enough to make it worth saving a few bucks to miss out on the better outcomes they produce. It’s difficult to be better. You have try harder. It’s tougher to sell “better” in a world that is increasingly transactional. You have to spend your time with people who value “better” enough to pay for it.If you believe it’s tough selling at a higher price than your competitors, try winning a race to the bottom.last_img read more

Pullout of stars won’t affect tennis’ debut in CWG: Sania

first_imgThe game of tennis has “enough depth” to negate the absence of star players when the sport makes its debut at the Commonwealth Games, feels India’s star player Sania Mirza. It would have been a treat for home fans had world No. 4 Andy Murray, former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt, French Open finalist Smantha Stosur and Cyprus’ Marcos Bhagdatis, who recently stunned Rafael Nadal, not pulled out of the Games. The Games are clashing with prestigious season-ending ranking events on the two professional tours, forcing players to decide against playing in the Games.Sania, who has been India’s face on the WTA circuit in last half-a-decade, feels star-factor or rankings doesn’t count much when one is on court.”As a tennis player, one can only compete with the players who are on the other side of the net! However, I can assure you that at least in a global sport like tennis, the depth is tremendous and stardom or rankings have no bearing once a player enters the court,” Sania told PTI.India’s men’s squad is packed with legends such as Leander paes and rising stars in Somev Devvarman but the women’s squad wears a complete contrast look.AITA had to recall 33-year-old Nirupama Sanjeev for the Games and apart from Sania and Nirupama, another veteran Rushmi Chakravarthy (513) and youngster Poojashree Venkatesh (444) comprise the four-member women’s team.Sania acknowledged the bleak picture.”It is a great achievement for Niru to be still good enough to get into the team. However, it is disappointing that the cupboard of upcoming talent in Indian women’s tennis looks bare,” Sania said.advertisementSania will not compete in the women’s doubles event as Poojashree and Rushmi will take part in the event. She will play in the singles and pair up with Leander Paes in the mixed doubles. Nirupama will pair up with Rohan Bopanna in the mixed doubles.Talking about her own expectations at the Games, world’s third largest sporting event in terms of particpation of countries, Sania said she just believes in giving her best shot and do not think much beyond that.”I have always expected myself to give my best and to leave the rest to God. This is what I have done for every tournament that I have ever played in my life and till date my expectations from myself remain the same.”One being asked, if she feels pressure to put up a good show before home crowd since it has been an unimpressive season so far for her, she said, “International sport is all about pressure and handling it to the best of one’s abilities.I don’t really feel any extra pressure.”She though was quite optimisitc about winning gold in the mixed doubles event along with Leander Paes.”We had won a bronze medal at the Busan Asian Games in 2002 and the gold medal in the Doha Asian Games in 2006. I’m hoping we can re-create that magic to win another medal for India in New Delhi.”Sania’s career graph has dipped in the last two years due to injuries and lack of form, though recently she won her ninth WTA doubles title in Guangzhou. The free fall of singles ranking forced her to go through the qualifiers at the US Open since 2005.Considering this, a good show at the Games before the home fans, look a must as a medal winning performance, would give it a massive fillip in order to revive her career .But the Hyderabadi says one single tournament may not shape or mar a career.”It takes a lot of patience, determination and will power to make a comeback from a serious injury at the highest level.Every win at the professional level adds to one’s confidence.I do not believe that any single tournament can make or break a career,” she contended.last_img read more

Franklin died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018, at her home in Detroit. (Charles Sykes/Invision/Associated Press) Advertisement Advertisement Franklin earned the soul in her voice through a life of emotional upheavals. Her mother passed away when she was 10. She had two sons before her 16th birthday, married for the first time at 19 and had two more sons before she turned 30. Love affairs came and went. Her influential father was shot and remained in a coma for years before he died. A fully confident performer by her mid-20s, she thoroughly re-envisioned and transformed an already successful tune by Otis Redding — Respect — into a empowering anthem that catapulted her to international stardom and became her signature tune.‘The gift is just the beginning’“Being supremely gifted by God does not mean that there won’t be a lot of hard work involved. I think if anything, what I’ve learned from Aretha is that the gift is just the beginning. With how much respect you treat your gift depends how far you’ll go with it,” Brueggergosman noted. LEAVE A REPLY Cancel replyLog in to leave a comment Measha Brueggergosman calls Franklin “a feat of nature in terms of her vocal prowess and flexibility.’ (CBC) With a voice like a force of nature, undeniable swagger onstage and a decades-spanning career that encompassed multiple musical genres, Aretha Franklin indisputably lived up to the honorific she earned as a young artist: the Queen of Soul.Few musical performers have been as widely revered as Franklin, who died on Thursday of advanced pancreatic cancer at the age of 76. The depth of her talent, her professionalism and her dedication to music were just some of what made her shine, according to Canadians artists mourning her passing.“Aretha Franklin was not just a feat of nature in terms of her vocal prowess and flexibility and agility, but she had real musicianship, real power, when it came to deciding what musical direction a piece would take,” singer Measha Brueggergosman said in Halifax.
